October marks the release of two highly anticipated Gaming releases for Next Gen Gamers.
First up is Bethesda and Obsidian Studios' Fallout: New Vegas, being released October 19th.Written by John Gonzalez, Fallout: New Vegas takes place during the year 2281, three years after the estimated end of Fallout 3, and 204 years after the Great War of 2077, making this installment chronologically the latest in the series thus far. The game is set in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, Nevada and the Mojave Desert known as the "Mojave Wasteland" which is roughly the same size as the "Capital Wasteland" in Fallout 3. Unlike other cities in the Fallout series, Las Vegas was not struck directly by a nuclear attack. Its buildings remain intact, and mutation of its inhabitants is minimal. The city is divided between various factions, most notably the New California Republic (NCR), the slave-driving Caesar's Legion, and the various factions of New Vegas itself. Landmarks featured in Fallout: New Vegas include the Hoover Dam that supplies power to the city and the Helios 1 solar energy plant.
The game places the player in the role of a courier. The courier, while delivering a package to a town called Primm with a platinum poker chip and NCR war documents, is found half dead in a shallow grave after being shot in the head by Benny, the leader of a crime family called the Geckos, and left for dead. The Courier is rescued by a robot named Victor who brings the courier to Doc Mitchel who treats the courier's injuries. Thereafter the player enters into character creation (defining skills and attributes, name, gender, age and appearance) before investigating the assassination attempt, recovering the stolen package, and exploring the world.
October 26th marks the release of Fable III, from British Games Company, Lionhead Studios. Set approximately 50–60 years after the events of Fable II, the continent of Albion, where the Fable series is set, is currently under the control of Logan, a corrupt, tyrannical king. Logan's sibling, the "Hero", you and the playable character, is forced into a quest to become a revolutionary leader to defeat the king after an "injustice" happens to their parent, the previous ruler of Albion, your Fable 2 character, believed to be killed at the hands of Logan. Over the course of the first half of the game, the Hero will gain the people of Albion's support, overthrow Logan and become ruler of Albion him/herself. During the second half of the game, the player will have to choose whether or not to follow up on promises made to the public, which were made during gameplay, at the risk of losing Albion's approval. While dealing with this, the player will also be faced with the possibility of war when "Aurora", a neighboring country, begins to threaten Albion.
